History
Victory Baptist Church History:
In 1990, Pastor Don Broeker, then pastor of Sugar Creek Baptist Church in West Terre Haute, had a dream that Vermillion County would have a Southern Baptist Church. This church would be an outreach of Sugar Creek. In late 1991, Albert Fields was called as Church Planter. In March 1992 a Bible Study began in the Fields home. The growing congregation became known as Clinton Baptist Chapel and moved to a storefront; then to a vacant warehouse owned by the local electric utility. This warehouse became known as the Upper Room. The excitement in the Upper Room came from changed lives, new hopes and support from a new family found in Jesus Christ.
In January, 1994, with 40 members and running 60 in attendance, Clinton Baptist Chapel became a constituted church body and the name was changed to Victory Baptist Church. Again, a new location was needed. Land was purchased, a building was constructed, and in November of 1994, the first building was dedicated.
In July 1998 the congregation again outgrew the building and an expansion was planned. In the fall of 1999, an Associate Pastor was called. A new worship center and educational space was built and dedicated in the spring of 2000. In October 2000 Larry Snyder became the Pastor. In February 2006 Mary Ann Griffin became church secretary, and in March 2007 Marc Loveland was installed as Youth Pastor.
Many souls have been
saved through the ministry of Victory Baptist Church since those early days, and people
have grown in the Lord. God has used this congregation for many ministries to reach out to
the community and touch lives. To God be the glory, great things He has done!
