Our History
A Look At God's Faithfulness
Historical Events
1990
The church began as a prayer meeting at the home of Albert Fields, Church Planter, in 1990. The first public meetings were held in the fellowship room of the Fairview Park Fire House. As space became an issue, the church graduated to a storefront building on 9th Street in Clinton and became Clinton Baptist Chapel.
The next move was to the upstairs of the old Public Service Indiana warehouse on Water Street. Many today jokingly refer to that building as “The Upper Room.” Despite the congregation riding up to the sanctuary on a dark, dingy, somewhat dangerous freight elevator, and one church member breaking a leg, many believe that’s where the “church” was actually born.
1992
Victory Baptist Church was incorporated in 1992 with a membership of approximately 35 people. It started as the brain-storm of Donn Broeker, Pastor of Sugar Creek Baptist Church in West Terre Haute, IN.
In 1992, five acres were purchased at 133 S. Washington Street in Fairview, our current location. Land was cleared and a building was built in 1994 using all volunteer labor from across the United States. An additional sanctuary and Sunday School rooms were erected in 1999 in order to accommodate the growing congregation.
2000
In October, 2000, Pastor Larry Snyder was called to serve as pastor.
2021
Pastor Larry Snyder retired on December 31, 2021. The members of Victory Baptist Church have elected seven church members to work together and serve as a Pastor Search committee.
2004
On March 14, 2004, the church celebrated its 10th Anniversary. It was a wonderful day, filled with old friends, old memories, and a commitment to make new ones.
2023
On October 8, 2023, Pastor Mike Bennett was called to serve as pastor.
God has been faithful, and the church continues to grow, all to the glory of God.
